Information About Planets

The Planets are the main activating forces of karma and freewill in Vedic Astrology. The planets are called Graha, they are sun, moon, mars, mercury, jupiter, venus, saturn, rahu and ketu. Their sanskrit names are surya, chandra, kuja, mangala, muruga, budha, Guru, brihaspati, shukra and shani.

The Sun – The higher Sun is the Self or Soul, the lower is the expression of our false self or ego. Every heartbeat, thought, inspiration, act of photosynthesis or anything else real or imagined on Earth has been fueled by Sun’s power. His is the energy of confidence and power, consistency and inspiration. The strength of the Sun will show our inherent capacity for truth and transformation. The Sun is the only light in the chart, or in life. The other planets merely reflect the Sun’s Light. It is the ONE that connects all things – the ocean of light that is our true nature. As such it illuminates the path of truth, giving the strength to sacrifice our smaller desires so that we may purify and reclaim our Self as the highest truth.

Keywords: Soul’s energy, Confidence, consistency, Power, Self-growth and development, Ego, Father

The Moon – The higher Moon reflects the joy and sharing that comes with having peace of mind, the lower Moon shows the neglect and withdrawal we experience when faced with losing that peace. The Moon is the Soul as it descends into matter, and it is our connection to this soul through sense mind and body. It is where we are the most easily hurt and the most vulnerable. The Moon shows the quality of our nurturing and our capacity to nurture others. It shows the clarity of our perceptions and how they are distorted as well as our basic desire to have peace of mind. The Moon is like the window we are looking through. Whatever affects the Moon, deeply affects our life and outlook.

Keywords: Peace of mind, connection or neglect, other people, the public, Mother, nurturing

Mars – The higher Mars is the spiritual warrior, stopping at nothing to know the truth so as to free the soul from bondage. The Lower Mars is the combative and opinionated nature to which we can be reduced. Mars gives us the discipline and focus to improve and transform our life through right action based on our principles. When his principled energy is directed inward toward higher purposes, he brings the courage to face our internal weaknesses and improve our lives. When directed toward outer and lower purposes he is the very energy we are struggling against. This lower nature creates a paradigm of security based on our opinions, not on God’s law (Dharma). These limiting opinions will bring us into conflict with others and takes us further from the truth he is seeking.

Keywords: Physical strength, Focus, opinions, aggression, logic, discipline, recklessness, friends and Brothers

Mercury – The higher Mercury is the God of discrimination, and the capacity of the mind to be fair and balanced. The lower Mercury can drain our mental energy through over stimulation and trivia, leaving us unable to recognize the important details to focus on and strengthen. Mercury is discrimination, for either good or bad. Proper discrimination implies neutrality; such is the nature of Mercury. This neutrality can lead to a disconnected, ungrounded intellect or one prone to bad influences. His nature is also to play, be curious and experiment, as it is through these activities that we hone our skills and through proper speech and clear communication that we are able to manifest something tangible from them. He governs the detail-oriented nature of the mind. Mercury shows if we will become ensnared in the details or organize them into a paradigm of truth, which leads to our freedom.

Keywords: Speech and communication, skills, intellect, dexterity, equanimity, neutrality, curiosity, playfulness

Jupiter – The higher Jupiter is God’s grace, wisdom, ethics aligned with right behavior and optimism. The lower Jupiter can be a haughty showman, concerned with appearance, status and the admiration of others. Jupiter is our capacity to do good, and to always wish to choose the good over the bad. He is where we expand in life and want to share God’s grace. Through wealth, children and education we expand externally; through faith and valuing God’s grace we expand internally. Jupiter rules all of these domains. We all have a higher vision of ourselves that we are expanding toward -Jupiter shows that vision and how we would like it to play out in our lives. Jupiter gives us the hope that things will get better. A weak Jupiter will either lack hope or be unrealistic in expressing it. A foolhardy optimism is possible. Jupiter aligned with our sense of duty will allow for our higher vision to not only lead us externally but also expand internally.

Keywords: Knowledge, Expansion, (children, education, spirituality) teachers and teaching, Optimism

Venus – The higher Venus is Divine Love and devotion through surrender, the lower Venus is hedonism and over indulgence in sensory pleasures. Much of our human life is learning to transmute our physical desires, from the animal (sensory pleasure) to the human (human love) to the God (Spiritual devotion). Venus is key to this transformation as she rules all three of these important qualities of life. Her Sanskrit name means “sperm”, as it is she who shows how much vitality we will ultimately have. In truth we all want the same thing in life, which is to be happy. Venus is the planet that gives us happiness, but maturity with Venus is learning to find happiness in the things that replenish our energy, not drain it. The main issue with Venus is how high of a price we are willing to pay for our happiness. Part of this discipline is learning to think of the needs of others, thus the first lesson of Venus is to respect and value others needs as much as our own. A strong Venus will not pay too high of a price for happiness and thus not leave our selves and others feeling devalued through the selfish pursuit of our desires. From this point of selflessness a deeper devotion to God emerges.

Keywords: Pleasure, love, sex, happiness, sensual desire, service, devotion, courtesy, manners, vitality, respect, improvement

Saturn – The higher Saturn is a Monk in meditation, the lower is a cold, ruthless individual, disconnected from his feeling nature and other people. It is through Saturn that we come to experience ourselves as a separate being and make peace with our limitations or not, the ultimate limitation being death itself. Saturn rules the nervous system and through it creates painful complexes that reinforce our separation from God, through form and concept. Anxiety, fear, sorrow, insecurity, loss and life’s painful lessons are all ways Saturn teaches us to give up attachment to form and not take things so personally. His neuroses will teach us perseverance and Self-control, as we will hide behind a wall of self-sufficiency to avoid being seen in our state of weakness. However, at some point something much bigger than what we can control will force us to our knees, like the death of a loved one, a chronic illness or an excessive amount of responsibility that was our distraction. These crises force our pain into the open where we must face them. Those who cannot learn from life and the hard lessons of Saturn will be reduced to bitterness and foolishness in old age. The greatness of Saturn is that he teaches us sensitivity to others and a respect for all; for once we have suffered we become sensitive to all who suffer. Once his ability for control is properly aligned with dharmic purposes, Saturn gives the perseverance and concentration to put into practice what we have learned, not just acknowledge it mentally. He allows us to be alone to work through our salvation, which is the only possibility.

Keywords: Ambition, fear, responsibility, the perseverance and capacity for hard work, stress, isolation, Old people

Rahu – Rahu, the north node of the moon, shows the main forces of desire that have compelled us to take a body in this lifetime. Rahu represents material desire, but because he is not a physical planet he operates on the subconscious level. He distorts our perceptions and colors the world according to his desires. He tends to obliterate the essence of things, focusing on their material substance. He is our deepest subconscious material desire. Rahu obsesses over the things we need to learn so we can eventually be freed of them. There are certain lessons we can only learn in a physical body, in the physical world, and rahu’s obsessions indicate those things. Rahu will tend to feel like Saturn in that both of these planets bring stress and fear. The stresses of Saturn are based on the tangible known things in the universe that can go wrong, the health, the income, etc.; rahu feels stress and worry about the many unknown, undeveloped qualities of our mind and experience. His obsessions are all attempts to assuage the undeveloped part of our consciousness. Yet Rahu can be very spiritual when powerful and aligned with dharmic planets. When we desire truth, Rahu can bring Spiritual progress very quickly. Rahu affects all Spiritual growth in one way or another, as it is he who represents matter and the purification of matter.

Keywords: Obsession, attachment, distorted perception, blowing things out of proportion, psychic ability

Ketu – Ketu, the south node of the moon, is the other half of the demon, the headless body. Where Rahu obsesses over the things of this world, Ketu seeks to be freed from them. Rahu is material and loses the essence of things in their substance. Ketu perceives the essence of things but is unsatisfied with anything substantive in the world. Whereas Rahu shows where we are obsessed to grow and experience new things, Ketu is where we may want to fall back on familiar patterns and become stuck in them. Ketu brings doubt and a sharp criticism to the areas of life that he sees, resulting in us looking ever higher to find the truthful answers to them. Yet he is eternally unsatisfied, noticing only what is missing from whatever he is influencing, thus those areas of life will be especially hard to “work on” as we will be filled with our deepest levels of doubt and self – loathing where Ketu is concerned. Ketu will tend to feel like Mars in that both Ketu and Mars are critical and opinionated. Ketu has the same sharp and focused nature. His criticism is based on past skill and it is where we will fall back on a set of ideas of how things should or should not be. These ideas close him off to the greater and necessary possibilities that must be considered in order for the karmas with him to be completed. Ketu is the completer of karmas and shows where we must “lose our head” around what we have experienced and mastered, in order to eventually be freed of it.

Keywords: Dissatisfaction, detachment, solitude, intense scrutiny, liberation, explosive nature.

BLUE SAPPHIRE GEMSTONE

Stones and Gems have magnetic powers. Blue Sapphire is the gemstone bearer of the blue color ray. Its effects are a combination of those of the blue ray and of the energy of Sapphire's mineral composition, corundum. Blue Sapphire nourishes the mind and puts thoughts in order and perspective. The blue ray it carries disintegrates disharmony in the physical head, thereby clearing the pathways for healing energies to enliven all the functions centered there.

Blue Sapphire can help you gain self-mastery that is, mastery of your mind, emotions, and physical body. To understand how Blue Sapphire does this, it is necessary to understand something of the nature of the mind. The mind is complex and comprised of many levels or areas. Thoughts are formed at the highest level of the mind, in the aspect closest to your purely spiritual aspect. They are generated continually; indeed, a new thought is born every moment. As Soul, you have the power to discriminate and choose which thoughts you wish to have. This is an important choice, because your thoughts feed and otherwise profoundly affect your emotions and physical body.

Consequently, learning mental discrimination is essential. This discrimination is the ability to choose which thoughts you would like to entertain, express, and empower. It is also the ability to choose which thoughts you would like to ignore and allow to flow out into the ethers so that they never manifest or affect anything. Blue Sapphire can teach mental discrimination.

It is an expensive stone. But one should wear it after consulting a therapist, astrologer and numerologist. It gives relief to heart patients and protects the wearer against accidents and dangers of fire and natural calamities. It removes hassles and irritants, agonies and frustration in life. Sapphires are placed in different categories. The Brahmin class is blue or white with a bluish hue. The kshatriya class is raddish with bluish hue. The Vaishya class is white with dark blue tinge. The shudra class is blue with a blackish hue. A blemished Sapphire brings in trouble. If it is having white lines, it affects wearer's eyes. Milky hue causes poverty. Cracks in stone may cause accidents and a double colored one may bring in enmity. Non-transparent may affect the wearer's near relations. If sapphire changes its color, it warns the wearer of a treat of attack to him/her or a conspirary against him/her. It has been noticed that the stone comes back to its original color after the calamity is avoided or passed.

There is a substitute for Blue sapphire and that cheaper stone is called Kathela. It can be worn when there is a conjunction of Saturn-mars or Saturn-rahu in the birth chart. It should be 3 to 3.5 carats in weight for domestic peace and financial prosperity. It helps in preventing vomiting, nausea, headache, vertigo, abscess, eye infections, allergies and tensions. The wearers of the stone would be attached and faithful to his/her family members.

This stone should be worn on Saturday two hours and forty minutes before sunset. It can be also worn during pashya nakshatra or eclipses after distributing alms to the poor and doing puja. Expert's opion that Blue Sapphire should be worn on the second finger and the weight should be atleast 5 carat. To achieve improvement in fertility, Blue sapphire can be combined with Tourmaline of green color.

THE POINT OF DEEPEST FALL (DELIBERATED PLANETS)

THE POINT OF DEEPEST FALL

NOTE: What we are discussing is more philosophical than practical, and application

should be tempered with the proverbial pinch of salt.

INTRODUCTION

In an ideal world, nobody wants to have any afflicted graha in his chart, but then again,

we do not live in an ideal world.

Among all the possible afflictions, perhaps nothing scares a person more than knowing

that some graha is neecha in his chart. Immediately, people start looking out for neecha

bhanga or better still, neecha bhanga raja yoga.

If one may compare a graha to one’s own eyes, then a neecha graha is like an eye

incapable of seeing clearly. Neecha bhanga may then be compared to using spectacles to

improve one’s vision, but, just as spectacles cannot give perfect vision, similarly, neecha

bhanga can never completely overcome all ills. Neecha bhanga raja yoga is like using

binoculars, but just as one cannot go around with a pair of binoculars always pressed to

one’s eyes, similarly, even neecha bhanga raja yoga cannot always deliver good results.

BEYOND THE BASICS

What is it that makes a graha neecha? We need to understand this thing first. For this, we

must look beyond the obvious fact of “graha X is neecha in rasi Y.” To get to the heart of

the matter, we should look at the point where a graha is at its lowest ebb, and study the

related issues carefully.

While the relationship between the neecha graha and the lord of the rasi in which it is

neecha is of paramount importance, we could gain further by studying the relationship

between the neecha graha and the nakshatra in which it is neecha. This helps us to finetune

the results, and enhances our lucidity.

At another level, we could consider the nakshatra pada in which a graha is neecha, and

study the lord of that pada, which will correspond to the lord of the navamsa in which the

said pada falls.

For additional illumination, we could also consider the drekkan in which a graha is fallen.

Why, some might wonder, are we studying the drekkan after studying the nakshatra and

the navamsa? The reason is simple – of all the divisions, only the drekkans have

descriptions, and an understanding of these visual metaphors can perhaps enable us to

understand the true affliction of a neecha graha that much better. The descriptions of the

drekkans given herein have been taken from Shri BV Raman’s book “Hindu Predictive

Astrology.”

FEAR IS THE KEY

To understand a neecha graha, it is best to assume that some form of fear possesses it. In

a way, this may seem funny—after all, what could perhaps cause fear to Sani, who

himself causes fear to all men? Technically speaking, a graha many not be “afraid” in the

sense people are afraid of tigers or the Inspector of Taxes, but there is an affliction caused

by the fact that something that the graha stands for is not in good shape. If this were not

the case, then there is no reason to pronounce that the graha is neecha!

Understanding the cause of the fear of the graha may take us one step closer to

comprehending what is actually wrong. Therefore, we will start with the fear concept, not

because a graha is “afraid,” but because fear is something that we all understand so well.

After all, does not knowing that we have a neecha graha in our chart make us feel scared?

THE NEECHA GRAHAS

1. SURYA

Surya is at the point of deepest fall at 10 degrees, Tula rasi. This corresponds to Swati,

which is ruled by Rahu, in the 2nd pada, which is ruled by Sani, and in the 2nd drekkan,

which is also ruled by Sani.

Both Rahu and Sani are inimical to Surya, and their combined might means that Surya

feels very low indeed. Sani is humble and relates to equality, and so does Rahu as per

“Sani vad Rahu,” and Surya, as the king, cannot digest this!

The description of the 2nd drekkan of Tula is:

“A man hungry and thirsty, with the face of a vulture, and attached to his wife and

children.”

In the above context, it is worth noting that Sani is Surya’s son, and the vulture is said to

be Sani’s mount.

2. CHANDRA

Chandra is at the point of deepest fall at 03 degrees, Vrichaka rasi. This corresponds to

Vishaka, which is ruled by Guru, in the 4th pada, which is ruled by Chandra, and in the 1st

drekkan, which is ruled by Kuja.

It is easy to understand Surya’s neechatva, but Chandra’s is more perplexing. Why is he

neecha in association with Guru and Kuja, with both of whom he forms the Gaja Kesari

Yoga and the Chandra Mangala Yoga respectively?

Guru represents wisdom, and Chandra, who personifies the mind, doesn’t like wisdom,

and prefers pleasurable pursuits. Chandra in his own pada means the mind dwelling on

itself, not positively as in the “I consciousness” but in terms of trying to fulfil the

pleasures that the mind suggests. Chandra is also afflicted by the rashness of Kuja.

The description of the 1st drekkan of Vrichaka is:

“A beautiful young woman, quite naked, emerging out from an ocean towards the shore,

feet bound up by a serpent.”

This is a sarpa drekkan, and the snake allusion indirectly links it to Rahu and Ketu, the

nodes, whom Chandra fears.

3. BUDHA

Budha is at the point of deepest fall at 15 degrees, Meena rasi. This corresponds to

Uttarabadra, which is ruled by Sani, in the 4th pada, which is ruled by Kuja, and in the 2nd

drekkan, which is ruled by Chandra.

Budha is a highly intellectual graha, and it cannot stand the gloom of Sani, or the anger of

Kuja, or the fickleness of Chandra, all of which are inimical to rational thought. No

wonder it is neecha!

The description of the 2nd drekkan of Meena is:

“A beautiful woman, sailing in a boat with long flags towards the other coast.”

The flag is particularly interesting because it flies at the highest point, and represents the

acme. Ironically, with Budha fallen, intelligence, which differentiates humans from beast,

no longer reigns supreme!

4. SUKRA

Sukra is at the point of deepest fall at 27 degrees, Kanya rasi. This corresponds to Chitra,

which is ruled by Kuja, in the 2nd pada, which is ruled by Budha, and in the 3rd drekkan,

which is ruled by Sukra himself.

Sukra represents highly refined things, and this is the good aspect. The negative thing

about Sukra is his excessive pursuit of pleasure, which leads to a lowering of morals and

general dissipation. In particular, Kuja corrupts Sukra and turns love to lust. The fact that

Budha owns the concerned pada is also inimical to Sukra though Budha is friendly with

Sukra because those who love pleasures do not like listening to reason. The drekkan

being owned by Sukra implies a vortex of pleasure, which can only lead to lassitude.

The description of the 3rd drekkan of Kanya is:

“A fair woman, with a yellow cloth on her body and exposing her breasts and going to a

sacred place.”

What an apt description! Sukra is feminine, yellow represents prosperity, and as a

Brahmin graha, the visit to the sacred place is also appropriate. The vulgar reference to

the breasts implies the profaning of the sacred, caused by Sukra being neecha.

5. KUJA

Kuja is at the point of deepest fall at 28 degrees, Kataka rasi. This corresponds to

Aslesha, which is ruled by Budha, in the 4th pada, which is ruled by Guru, and in the 3rd

drekkan, which is also ruled by Guru.

Kuja is a warrior, and doesn’t like to heed either Budha’s intelligence or Guru’s wisdom.

All he wants to do is fight meaninglessly, and this makes him neecha.

The description of the 3rd drekkan of Kataka is:

“A man in a boat amidst an ocean, with a serpent around his waist.”

This is a sarpa drekkan, and indirectly refers to Rahu and Ketu, who, being daemons, are

inimically disposed towards the commander of the Gods. Since there is no reference to a

storm, we may safely assume that a boat in an ocean depicts serenity and perhaps

boredom because there is nothing to do but steer the boat. Since there are no prospects of

war, Kuja is highly frustrated!

6. GURU

Guru is at the point of deepest fall at 05 degrees, Makara rasi. This corresponds to

Uttarashada, which is ruled by Surya, in the 3rd pada, which is ruled by Sani, and in the

1st drekkan, which is also ruled by Sani.

Guru is a unique graha in Jyotish because it is the only graha that is not treated as an

enemy by any of the other grahas. So, it is a little intriguing to consider why it is neecha.

Perhaps, it is neecha because both the grahas concerned, Surya and Sani, can’t stand each

other. Also, Surya is arrogant and Sani represents humble activities, and neither of them

seems too capable of appreciating the wisdom that is so dear to Guru.

The description of the 1st drekkan of Makara is:

“A man with much hair, pig-bodied and faced, and carrying a rope and a net.”

Nothing threatening about the above, but it hardly seems to be the height of wisdom!

7. SANI

Sani is at the point of deepest fall at 20 degrees, Mesha rasi. This corresponds to Bharani,

which is ruled by Sukra, in the 3rd pada, which is also ruled by Sukra, and in the 3rd

drekkan, which is ruled by Guru.

Sani is responsible for grief, and as such, he doesn’t appreciate Sukra’s propensity for

merrymaking. Guru symbolises wisdom and so may be called a good teacher, but Sani is

more practical. The lessons he teaches are learnt in the University of Life, and not from

books. Thus, Sani may not be very pleased by Guru’s teachings, because he likes to teach

people by humbling them with sorrow and suffering.

The description of the 3rd drekkan of Mesha is:

“A cruel hearted man, red in colour, active, wearing red garments, unprincipled and

angry.”

The above description seems to fit Kuja, who is inimical to Sani, to a T!

AFTERWORD

It would be arrogant to presume that the above descriptions are accurate, and represent

the only way of looking at the neecha state of a graha. However, it is a good starting

point, and the author hopes that even points above that are not agreeable to the wise will

promote thought, and lead all of us to greater clarity and to the light, which is Jyotish.

how to select a gemstone

• Dear friends,

The pratikool-anukool theory making rounds and giving certificates to each and all on payment of some money, does not hold ground, as you will read in the following lines submitted by me.

a) Should we recommend gemstones for functional malefic planets? functional benefic planets only? or Both?

None.

b) Should we recommend gemstones for planets placed in 6th, 8th and 12th Houses? In which conditions?

Normally not. But essentially if these planets placed in 6th, 8th or 12th are placed in nakshatras who are owners of the wealth giving houses or desire fulfillments(2nd and 11th ). (Which is what one requires in Life, so lets be honest here).

c) Should we use Divisional charts for recommending gemstones instead of Rashi chart? For example: Dashamsha for Career?

No.

d) Should we recommend precious and semi-precious gemstones and leave the decision to the user to decide which one to wear?

Yes. (I personally do not recommend semi-precious)

e) Should we recommend gemstone only for the lords of Lagna, 5th and 9th? If so, why not others, if they are benefic and placed well?

The 9th if a badhaksthana for a Fixed Lagna must not be recommended. One must not suggest Lagna Lord Gem if it is placed in nakshatra of the planet owning 8th or 12th. Because then the Lagna Lord will be actually giving the results of these negative houses. For a person who is in service the Gemstone for the 5th lord should not be recommended because then he may begin facing problems in his job, since the job is signified by the 6th house and by wearing the Gemstone for the 5th Lord one is actually strengthening the 12th house from the 6th.

BUT for a person looking for good health , he must be suggested a Gemstone for the 5th Lord, because the 5th signifies Cure.

So there are Gemstones to be recommended for a specific purpose too depending on the current problem. For instance one not getting a job if badly looking for one, may be suggested a Gemstone for the planet signifying the 6th Lord, but eventually after acquiring one, has to remove the same, or else would also increase the ill health propensities in his nativity.

Even the Lord of the 8th can give superb results if well placed, and even the Lord of the Lagna can give bad results, so there is nothing like some mandatory rule to be followed in this matter.

f) Which gemstones do you recommend for each planet? Example: Red Ruby and Red Garnet for Sun. Emerald, Peridot, Green Jade for Mercury.

The Original Gemstones. Ruby and Emerald. If the person cannot afford this, then let him keep the objects of the planets in his Shirt Pocket, like piece of Haldi , or some sugar for the Moon etc.

Gemstone recommending is an intricate science but now has become a like a Duplicate Rolex watch in hands of one and all.

At times Gems have to recommended for a temporary time, keeping the end(Result) in mind and once that is achieved, the Gem must be removed.

At times if one is not able to marry then one has to be suggested Gemstone for Planet signifying 2nd and 7th but would you allow the person to wear this, till he becomes old, when this same Gemstone would tend to strengthen to the maraka propensities for the native ?

The there are other problems to contend with too. For a newly married couple a green Emerald will not be favourable. Why ? Because it will reduce the sexual desires. Remember the basics ? Mercury is a Hermaphrodite Planet .

Then there are people who at the drop of the hat suggest The Pearl or the Moonstone immediately. Now if the Sun is the Lord of the Kundli or having Lordship of an imposrtant house in the Horoscope, would it make sense to wear a Pearl ? Or else if one is born on a Amavasya or a Poornima one should certainly note what would be the effects of wearing a Pearl before jumping to suggest this. There are other factyors like waning Moon and the waxing Moon the implications of which must be understood well before suggesting this Gem. Instead of bringing stability to mind, on the contrary it may cause depressions too. And by the way nobody in Real Life is so unstable that we need to suggest Gems for such frivilous matters which most astrologers do. "Your mind will become calm. You will be able to make better decesions. You will have peace of mind". This is logicless talking. Because the other problems which may affect in a horde, would not be foreseen or one may not have the foreseight to observe these.

Even the above made suggestions would change strictly speaking if one goes for Original Cosmic colour therapy ,on which I wil put a note some other day or may not put up because its too exhaustive and technical. For Instance we think that the Pearl means white, but actually its Cosmic rays are made of Orange colour. We think Diamond as White but its Cosmic rays are of Indigo colours. If one has excess of Red(Pitta) Cosmic rays in his body then one has to counter it with Orange/Green(Kapha) Rays. This is related to the various Chakras in the body. For instance the Red Colour (Fire Element) represented by Ruby, rules the Manipur Chakra in the body , also known as the Solar/Abdominal Plexus. This will be affecting the Pranamaya Kosha. All the Gems are nothing but a Concentrated form of the Cosmic rays (like Gulab Jala made of Rose, or Vanilla Essence), and each Ray is linked to a particular wavelength (For ex. Red has a Wavelength Mu of 800-650) which affects the body, so wanton suggestion of Gems is a dangerous habit and carries a lot of rinabandhan on the Astrologer suggesting so.
